afternote

AI note-taking app

Write it down now. Find it when you need it.

Writing a note is easy. Finding the one from two months ago is the hard part. Afternote organizes every note for you and answers your questions from them, with citations. Just write - it does the rest.

No credit card. Unlimited notes on the free plan.

How Afternote works

Just write. It files itself.

Write a note in plain text and it lands in the right notebook on its own - meetings, ideas, reading, whatever you keep. No tags, no folders, no drag-and-drop. The organizing happens after you write, so it never gets in the way of the thought.

Ask your notes a question.

Ask in plain English and get an answer drawn from your own notes, with the source cited so you can check it. It reads what you actually wrote - and if the answer isn't in there, it says so. No made-up answers.

Smart Todos surface what matters.

The to-dos buried in your notes get pulled into one view, grouped by what's urgent - so the thing you scrawled at 2am doesn't slip through. It's a notes app first, not another task tracker you have to feed.

Built to stay out of your way

More features can be nice. But open Notion and you're staring at a learning curve before you've written a word. For notes, most of us aren't trying to become power users - we just want to write something down and find it later. Afternote does the basics, and does them well. In an era of more, it does less - really well.

Frequently asked questions

What is Afternote?
Afternote is an AI note-taking app. You write notes in plain text and its AI automatically organizes them into notebooks, then lets you ask questions and get answers cited from your own notes.
How is Afternote different from Notion AI or Mem AI?
Afternote is zero-effort: you never tag, file, or structure anything. Every note is organized for you automatically, and you can ask questions and get answers cited from your own notes. Notion AI lives inside a workspace you still have to build first. Mem AI is closest in spirit, but Afternote keeps the surface deliberately small and the organizing fully automatic.
Isn't this just ChatGPT with my notes attached?
Not quite. ChatGPT is a chat box, not a place to keep notes - and it won't reliably remember something you wrote in another thread three weeks ago. Afternote is built to search across everything you've written, and it answers from your notes with a citation instead of guessing. If the answer isn't in your notes, it tells you.
Is Afternote free?
Yes - free during early access. That includes unlimited notes, automatic organization, Ask, and Smart Todos, with no credit card required. Paid plans may come later, but early users stay free.
Does Afternote read my notes to answer questions?
Yes - that's the point. Ask retrieves the relevant notes you wrote and answers from them, citing the source. Chat is query-only: it doesn't save its answers back as new notes, and your notes are never used to train AI models.
Is my data private and secure?
Your notes are yours. They're never used to train models and never sold. Afternote is built by a security engineer, so security comes before speed - open-source dependencies with critical vulnerabilities are blocked before they ship. Trust is earned, not given, and that's the bar Afternote is built to.
Who builds Afternote?
Afternote is built by Danny Kim, who holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland and works on large-scale code-analysis systems. He started it after losing too many good notes in a mess of apps.

Stop filing notes. Start writing them.
